Install Hive Gateway VPN

Download the Windows installer

Install the current release on both the technician PC and the site gateway PC. Windows 10/11 x64 is required, and the .NET runtime is included.

Prefer a portable ZIP? Extract it completely, then open HiveGateway.exe.

Complete one-time service setup

Run setup under the Windows account that will use Hive. Leave Set up VPN service selected and approve its Windows administrator prompt. Install the official WireGuard for Windows component when setup requests it.

Open Hive normally afterwards. VPN connect/disconnect uses the protected service. Update that service along with the client. Siemens discovery additionally needs Npcap on the site PC; it is not bundled.

Activate your license

Online once: enter customer/company and device details, choose Request online, and have your administrator grant VPN Client at lic.hiveautomation.in. Choose Activate online once afterwards.

Completely offline: choose Export request. Carry the .hiverequest file to your administrator for import and grant in License Manager. Transfer the returned signed .hivelicense file to the PC and choose Import license.

Perpetual licensing then runs locally without an internet grace period or periodic renewal. Optional expiry dates still apply. Use Settings → License to import later updates. The actual VPN connection still needs a network connection.

Choose a role and request device approval

Choose Technician on the engineer's computer. Choose Site Gateway at the PLC site, select the Ethernet adapter that can already reach the PLC and enter its PLC subnet.

Choose Request approval on each PC. Your administrator reviews its approval code, role and site permissions at tools.hiveautomation.in/hive/admin/. Reopen Hive to collect an approved request if the computer was offline.

A software license and VPN device/site approval are separate requirements. Each Windows installation/account needs its own approval.

Connect and verify the site

Connect the site gateway VPN first. On the technician PC, select the approved remote site and connect. Then use the appropriate PLC discovery profile or the known PLC IP address in your engineering software.

Remote desktop sharing requires the receiving operator's consent for each session. Keep Hive open for discovery and attended support.

A VPN handshake verifies the tunnel, not PLC reachability. Test discovery, programming traffic, adapter behavior and recovery with the intended PLC and network before field use.
